Tinubu replaces El-Rufai and requests Senate confirmation for three fresh ministerial nominees.

  • President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to conduct screenings and confirm ministerial nominees from different states. Among the nominees are Abbas Balarabe from Kaduna State, Jamila Bio Ibrahim from Kwara State, and Ayodele Olawande. This request was presented in a letter read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during a plenary session on Tuesday.

In September, President Tinubu had already announced the appointments of Mrs. Ibrahim as the Minister of Youth and Mr. Olawande as the Minister of State for Youth, with the condition that their roles be subject to Senate confirmation.

The nominee from Kaduna, Abbas Balarabe, appears to be a replacement for the previously rejected nominee, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State. El-Rufai, along with Abubakar Danladi from Taraba and Stella Okotete from Delta, faced rejection by the Senate in August due to issues related to security clearance.

President Tinubu has since inaugurated 45 ministers who successfully received approval from the Senate.
