Ibadan North-West LG Tackles Traffic Congestion in Eleyele, Ologuneru Axis

The Executive Chairman of Ibadan Northwest Local Government, Alhaji AbdulRahman Olanrewaju Adepoju, has taken proactive steps to address the persistent traffic congestion and road accidents in the Eleyele/Ologuneru axis.

The Council Chairman, on Monday led a delegation to Eleyele market for an interactive meeting with market traders and motorists to brainstorm solutions to the traffic woes.

According to the Council boss, the meeting was to brainstorm with the motorists and market traders in Eleyele market on how to prevent the frequent traffic in the market.

The Chairman affirmed that the security reports given to him highlighted
that illegal parking by motorists, Okada riders and street trading were part of the causes of recent motor accident in Eleyele market where some lives were lost. Hence, the need for prompt interventions to prevent future occurrences.

He asserted that the present administration under the leadership of His Excellency Engr Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde is not out to witch-hunt or inconvenient anyone but to create a conducive living and commercial environment for all and sundry.

In this regard, the Executive Chairman has ordered that henceforth, no trader should display his/her goods by the roadsides and no motorist should alight or carry passengers by roadsides. All traders are enjoined to make use of the spaces provided for them for their commercial activities.He added that motorists, Okada and tricycle riders should move to all designated motor parks provided for them.

The Chairman reiterated that anybody regardless of socio- political status, found wanton or violating traffic rules will be punished in accordance with the law. He added that security operatives have been deployed to all the nooks and crannies of Eleyele area directed to carry out their schedules as expected without minding whose ox is gored.

While on the official visit, the Executive Chairman also inspected the on-going Eleyele water corporation road rehabilitation project where he commended the contractors for a perfect job.He stressed that the completion of the road will also reduce the incessant traffic at Eleyele and environs.

Alh Adepoju further appreciated the residents of Eleyele and Environs for their perseverance since the commencement of the road project. He assured that the road will be opened for usage as soon as possible.

On the Executive Chairman’s Entourage were the Vice Chairman, Alh Ganiy Abiodun Omotosho, leader of the House, Hon. Gbemileke Nelson, Chief of staff, Hon Kazeem Fantola, Councillors and Head of Local Government Administration Mrs Rachael Olabode.

Others were DPO, Eleyele Division; Officers of FRSC, NSCDC, OYRTMA and Amotekun.
