Between AGSO, Ogbomoso and It’s Alumni | By Sunday Ogunkuade

The relationship between a school and its former students is analogous to that of a father and his children. A responsible father, within an African context, though, laboured to raise up his children properly with an expectation that the children would make him proud in future and ultimately take care of him in his old age. In the same breath, a good school which has succeeded in producing quality students experts to enjoy the goodwill of its old students for the products are its health. Although no law makes it mandamus that every alumnus must come back to assist their alma mater, it is a moral conversation, really, that a river should always remember its source.

It is natural for a tree to grow several branches, however, those branches never lose touch with the roots. This analogy is relevant in this context. Anglican Grammar School (AGSO), Sabo, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria, like a tree with many branches, has produced outstanding alumni of immense status and brand equality. AGSO which came into existence in September 1976 has since produced thousands of alumni who are reigning in robust resources across the world. AGSO,Ogbomoso is popular because of the quality of its products. No wonder that the latest catchphrase with the school is “AGSO: our products are our pride”. Just like a proud father who has successfully raised outstanding children, AGSO has been enjoying the goodwill of its prestigious products who are scattered all over the globe.

Perhaps, because of the quality of training received from AGSO, not a few former students have been looking back with a view to giving back to the school that shaped their lives. These alumni have been so passionate and generous to their alma mater. From people like late Comrade John Adelubi Ojekanmi, the pioneer President of Anglican Grammar School old students association. Ojekanmi’s tenure sets the association on the path of glory. Anyone visiting the school or passing through the truck road in Ogbomoso would see the beauty that Anglican Grammar School, Sabo, Ogbomoso has become. He was replaced by Professor Gbenga Bello of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. Bello has been building on the foundation laid by late Ojekanmi to position the school as a primus inter pares in the nation. To be factual, AGSO, Ogbomoso has benefited immensely from its former students and is still benefiting.

As usual, the old students association of Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso, has once again demonstrated its commitment to uplifting the glory of the school. Through their tireless efforts and generous contributions, the AGSO old students association has been instrumental in driving structural and developmental projects that have transformed the school into a beacon of excellence.

The association’s dedication to giving back to their alma mater is a testament to the strong bonds of loyalty and camaraderie that exist among old students. Their selfless contributions have not only improved the physical infrastructure of the school but have also enhanced the overall learning experience for current students.

Some of the notable projects undertaken by the AGSO old students association include the renovation of school hall, classrooms, laboratory, construction of modern amenities, and provision of essential resources such as textbooks, computers, sports facilities, and science equipment. These initiatives have significantly improved the academic environment, enabling students to thrive and reach their full potential.

The association’s commitment to excellence extends beyond physical development. The association has also been instrumental in promoting academic excellence, providing scholarships through the payment of Senior Secondary School West African Examination and National Examination Council registration fees. Besides, the association equally organizing mentorship programs that inspire and motivate students to strive for greatness.

As we celebrate the achievements of the AGSO, we must also acknowledge the tireless efforts of individual members who have worked behind the scenes to make these projects a reality. Their dedication, perseverance, and passion for excellence are an inspiration to us all. In the light of that, the success of the AGSO old students association’s development initiatives would not have been possible without the collaborative spirit and support of the school’s administration. Deacon Abiodun Olowe, the principal of Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso, who is also an esteemed old student of the school, deserves special commendation for his leadership and cooperation with the AGSO Old Students Association.

The vice principals and the entire staff of the school have also demonstrated remarkable teamwork and dedication, working in tandem with the AGSO to create a conducive environment for growth and development. Their mutual cooperation has been instrumental in facilitating the successful execution of various projects, ultimately benefiting the students and the school community as a whole.

On behalf of the old students association of AGSO, Ogbomoso, I extend our sincere appreciation to Deacon ‘Biodun Olowe, the vice principals, and the entire staff of Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso, for their unwavering support and collaboration with the AGSO. Your commitment to excellence and teamwork is a shining example of the school’s values and spirit.

To the AGSO old students association, we offer our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for your outstanding contributions to our alma mater. Your selflessness, generosity, and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact on our school, and we are forever grateful.

As we look to the future, we are confident that the association will continue to play a vital role in shaping the destiny of our school. I therefore urge all old students to join hands with the AGSO and contribute their time, talent, and resources to furthering the development of our beloved school.

Once again, I commend the AGSO for their outstanding achievements and look forward to celebrating many more milestones in the years to come.

Long live the AGSO Old Students Association! Long live Anglican Grammar School, Sabo, Ogbomoso!
