Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, an indigene of Gombe State, has emerged as the new President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The newly elected President defeated his closest rival, Dele Atunbi, with 436 votes to Atunbi’s 97 votes while Mohammed Garba came third with 39 votes.
Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde was elected Deputy National President unopposed, while Mrs. Ronke Afebioye Samo was re-elected unopposed as Vice President Zone B. Comrade Victor Ndukwe was also returned unopposed as National Treasurer.
The election was conducted amidst tight security, with Comrade Mike Ikeogwu as Chairman of the electoral committee.
The President-elect Yahya Alhassan, in his remarks thanked delegates and observers from across Nigeria for their support. He promised to take the journalism profession to new heights and prioritize his members’ welfare.
