Mohbad: Celebrities, young people, and fans converge on Lagos, Osun, and Delta as protests continue into their second day.

In the midst of ongoing controversy surrounding the passing of the singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, commonly known as Mohbad, fervent supporters in Lagos, Osun, and Delta states mobilized for street protests yesterday, urging for justice. Earlier this week, hundreds of protesters also gathered in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Akure, the capital of Ondo State, to demand justice for the late artist.

The Afrobeat singer’s death occurred last Tuesday at the age of 27, shrouded in what many consider mysterious circumstances. This led the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to initiate a comprehensive investigation through the Lagos State Police Command.

Protesters turned out in significant numbers in various parts of Lagos State, with one demonstration commencing from the Alagbado area along AIT Road, moving through the Command area, and then to Ile-Iwe in Meiran. These rallies unfolded under tight security, with at least four police patrol vehicles filled with armed officers accompanying the demonstrators.

More than 200 youths donned black tops and carried placards bearing various messages, all seeking justice for Mohbad. Similar protests also took place in Warri, Delta State.

In Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, thousands of young people crowded major roads in the city, demanding the apprehension and prosecution of those suspected to be involved in Mohbad’s demise. These youths, dressed in black attire, traversed the Dele Yes Sir area of the state, passing through Dada Estate, Oke-Fia, Alekuwodo, Olaiya, and MDS to reach Freedom Park, where they sang in solidarity to mourn the departed artist.

At the park, the protesters lit candles, sang various Mohbad songs, and voiced strong criticism against the owners of the Malian record label.
