Stakeholders Urged Oyo Govt to Establish Affordable Rehabilitation Centers for Drug Abuse Mitigation

Oyo State Government has been called upon to create Rehabilitation homes and facilities which would be affordable and accessible especially for the low-income groups. The State is also advised to encourage and facilitate a good working relationship among sister security agencies especially by fostering cooperation through regular collaborative meetings and trainings.

These was part of resolutions contained in the communique issued at the end of the one-day Stakeholders Engagement Workshop held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
The Stakeholders workshop organized by the Oyo State Mobilisation Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OYMASED) which has as its theme, “Security in Our Roads, Safety in Our Neighborhoods,” brought together experts and participants to discuss pressing security challenges and strategies for socio-economic development.
According to the communique issued at the end of the meeting, there is need for stricter law enforcement to reduce accidents and improve road safety in the state.
While calling on the constitution of a body to review Borstal institutions and Remand Centre Act 1961 for better rehabilitation of drug abuser, the communique urged schools to start having drug kits for early detection of drug to discourage youths in abusing it.
The communique also called for automation of offender identification through installations of cameras on roads and payment of fines within 48 hours.
The communique also noted that the state government needs to encourage the process of generating data base and Artificial Intelligence for road users as well as traffic offenders.
The communique also noted that there is need for crowd control during events while calling on organisers of events to always have a leader to coordinate, monitor and ensure that invitee’s welfare is prioritised before organising events.
The workshop concluded with a call for proactive measures and collaborative efforts to address security and socio-economic challenges in Oyo State.
