The federal lawmaker, representing Ibadan North-west and Ibadan South-west federal constituency of Oyo state at the national assembly, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, has commended the accelerated passage of the South West Development Commission Establishment Bill 2024, by the Senate.
The bill, passed by the Senate on Thursday, aims to establish a commission responsible for managing funds from the federation account, donations, and addressing developmental challenges in the region.
According to Tolu Mustapha, Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs to Hon. Adedeji Olajide, the PDP lawmaker, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and cybersecurity noted that the commission will have a positive impact on the south-west geopolitical zone, tackling infrastructural deficit, ecological problems, economic stagnation, among other problems facing the region.
He stated further, that the commission’s establishment is expected to accelerate economic growth and development across the south-west region and stressed that a collective effort is crucial to achieving this goal.
Olajide while urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to site the commission’s headquarters in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, citing it’s strategic location and existing infrastructure also called on stakeholders across the south-west states to support the commission in achieving its mandate, the statement added.
