The Independent Hajj Reporters on Wednesday in Abuja honoured Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State with the Award of Hajj-2024 Best Supporting Governor in the South in recognition of his unprecedented support and welfare packages given to the 2024 state Pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh Hasim Atere, the state Chairman, Pilgrims Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), received the award on behalf of Governor Makinde at a special and colourful event held at the Auditorium Hall of the National Mosque, Abuja.
According to the organisers of the Award ceremony, Governor Makinde’s selection as the best supporting Governor of Hajj-2024 was based on providing exceptional welfare packages for the state pilgrims in Saudi Arabia at a time the nation was faced with economic challenges, adding that the Award is meant to celebrate people who contributed meaningfully to the success of the 2024 Hajj.
Having made the journey memorable for the pilgrims with a unique experience, it would be recalled that the state pilgrims expressed their gratitude by organising special prayers for Governor Makinde during their sojourn in Saudi Arabia.
The organisers further stated that, it is worthy of note that Governor Makinde, since the inception of his administration has been supportive of Islam by relocating and reconstructing the popular Adogba Central Mosque in Ibadan with the state of the art facilities, renovation of Oja’ba Central Mosque, donation of buses to Islamic organizations and others too numerous to mention.
